Delicious detox snacks

You don't need to feel hungry on a detox plan, afterall, detox is all about indulging yourself. If you feel the urge to snack, choose one of these options:

  • Plain 'bio' yoghurt with a spoonful of 100 per cent fruit jam

  • A cup of fresh 'carton' vegetable soup (not canned or instant soups)

  • A couple of wheat-free oatcakes

  • A small handful of fresh unsalted nuts with an equal amount of dried fruit (preferably 'unsulphured' dried fruit from health food shops)

  • Some crudites (keep some cut-up carrots, celery and peppers in the fridge) with some hummus

  • A rye cracker with cottage cheese and cucumber

  • A piece of fruit - go exotic with fresh lychees or eat a locally grown apple for best flavour

    Caution

Remember that if you detox too quickly, you could get adverse side effects, such as headaches or bad breath as your body throws off some of its stored toxins. If this is too unpleasant, go straight to the slower maintenance tips in
which are aimed at creating long-term healthy habits. You should never attempt to detox if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication, have an eating disorder, are diabetic or are under medical supervision.
